Australia is home to the Euastacus genus of crayfish, commonly named spiny crays. More than 50 species make up the genus, and are diverse in size, spines and colouration. Inhabiting the East coast of Australia, many species favour rainforest streams and river systems, and many are classified as threatened species due to water pollution, illegal fishing, habitat degradation and invasive species.
